- Pack healthy snacks. So I knew when I came on this trip that I would not have many healthy choices and I brought some of my own just in case. Basically apples and power bars. These are easy and portable, and I can throw them in my bag. Also great for snacking when lunch is at 11:30 AM and dinner at 7:30 PM - I need to eat wayyyy more than that!
I also brought some green tea to help me avoid chugging coffee during these early mornings. I have been trying to focus more on tea than coffee.....but I'll be real here - I will NEVER stop drinking coffee! Just trying to keep it to one cup a day instead of 3 or 4.
- Put the healthy snacks in plain sight in the hotel room. This makes me reach for them instead of the junk food in my welcome bag, and it also keeps me from forgetting to grab them on my way to the next meeting.
Couple of other tips:
- Take advantage of the oatmeal, fruit and yogurt at the complimentary breakfast. I'll definitely be grabbing a banana and yoplait on my way out today. These will come in handy at 2 PM when I am stuck in another session with no break for the next 2 hours (and even then, the "break" is 15 min to run to the bathroom and fill up my water bottle). Can't focus when I'm hungry!
- Load up your lunch plate with salad first, then get a "side" of the main course. Yesterday's "lunch" was lukewarm greasy pizza and salad. I got salad first, which filled up most of my plate and then only had room for 1 square piece of cheese pizza. Just a small change but much better than eating 3 pieces of pizza only.
Happy Travels!!

This is such a great post! People use the "I'm too busy" or "all they had was junk at my meeting" excuse way too easily. I'm guilty too. But you cannot fail if you plan ahead. I'm talking a little about that in today's post too. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteYou got it down... I agree having them in view is KEY.
ReplyDeleteGo girl!!! Making the right choices on the road is the ultimate in will power! Love these ideas!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog through Mama Laughlin and I've already had to pin several things. I love it!
ReplyDeleteMy friends tease me for being a "mom" but when we go on trips for anything, I always pack us healthy snacks - apples, berries, granola bars, carrots, celery, and hummus along with ice packs to keep them cooler. Then I strategically pass them out so the food that needs to be cold gets eaten first. Controlling, but it works! I love your tips here.
Also, I'm running a half on May 4th only it's in Columbus. Go Bucks!
