This past weekend, we went kayaking and camping in southern Indiana- wooo am I sore! The kayak trip was 13 miles and took us about 6-7 hours...it was super fun for this nature-girl, AND a great workout, so now I am pestering Phil that we need to get our own kayaks! Of course that doesn't make any sense living in Indy where the only river around is Dirty (with a capital D) and we have nowhere to store them....but I want to kayak my little heart out every chance I get! I only capsized once, which I though was pretty impressive for my first time! The river was crowded and I couldn't save myself while going down a busy "rapid"...I saw some tree branches fast approaching and only had time to yell "Ohhh noooooooooo" before crashing and flipping upside down. Of course Phil stayed upright the entire time.
pretty much a spot on re-enactment
Like I said above, this week starts training for my second half marathon. Last week I ran two 5Ks to make sure I could start training without a problem. I had the intention of waking up early this morning to run the 3 miles, but I was so wiped out from the trip I slept right through my alarm. That's something I'll need to check off my list after work now.
The training plan calls for 4 miles as the long run this week, which I'll be doing in San Francisco! We are staying with my brother most of the time and he lives just a few miles from Golden Gate park - I am so excited to get to run around that area! We've also got camping & hiking in Yosemite on the list (cross-training!) and a day trip to Sonoma to turn our teeth purple. The weather is supposed to be in the 60's which is going to feel amazing, and it's going to be such a good time. Phil is hands-down my favorite travel buddy and my brother is a close second, as we all enjoy the same vacation activities - good food, drinks and outdoor adventures - and Kristie P was out there a little over a year ago and is giving us great advice for where to go and what to do, so I know it's going to be a great trip! Catch ya later - I'll be updating about training for half marathon #2 and the differences from the first time!
